Permaboss Motif Maker is twice as reliable and productive as a Chinese made rhinestone machine but half the price!

Believe it or not, the Permaboss Motif Maker was originally created for an entirely other use than for rhinestones, one that is far more demanding than anything any rhinestone designer could ever muster!

Currently there are more than 2800 units sold around the world in the last 8 years and the vast majority of them are in use for rapid prototyping scale aviation and automotive parts because it’s cheaper to make models and test than the real thing and find the errors when it’s too late!

Its second most popular use is by hobbyists and technology savvy businesses who want to offer high tech machining solutions. While that sounds great or possibly even confusing just remember that its third most popular use if for making rhinestone template designs.

Now in the above mentioned industries they need extremely accurate parts made quickly and precisely, and they can’t afford to hold up huge projects because of equipment failure, and in short this is what every business needs regardless if you are cutting $2.00 of rhinestone template materials or $700 in aircraft aluminum.

Small rhinestones like SS3, SS5 and SS6 are tiny and in order to make a reliable template you need an extremely accurate machine or you won’t be able to work with the template boards, you will go crazy trying if it’s not exact. Secondly you need it to take up very little space.

Finally the entire process needs to be simple, fast and effective because of the high labor costs in North America its always more costly to use cheap equipment here than in China, Pakistan and India for example where labor costs $29 or 30 a month instead of $15-$30 an hour!

Another reason for Permaboss introducing the motif maker was simply because we had to play the game after getting stiff competition with Chinese made machines to our Libero SheetFed machine so we came up with higher and lower tech machines. As you can see on the equipment page where there only used to be the SheetFed Libero a few years ago there are several solutions now in both directions!  

And that’s how the motif maker came about for half their price and its output is faster and more reliable than then any Chinese machine, hands down!

So let’s get down to business,What does the motifmaker do?

I want more detail on how long it takes to make a design.

This is where it gets really interesting. In this Crown design there are 76 stones or so. 1500 designs would be a total of 114,000 stones and on a Libero running at 5500 stones per hour it would take 10 hours totally unattended, so it would cost you about $7.00 per hour on a Libero- no human. On a Chinese machine, they claim 4620 elements per hour so it would take 24.67 hours to make and you would need a human to be there and run the machine, switch the transfer paper etc. So you would have the cost of the machine per hour for 24 hours and labor of at least $12 per hour times 24.67 hours.

With the motif maker we logged the time, it’s in the kit you can order from us and it took 19 hours in total! The labor to do this kind of work does not need a person who knows Windows or how to run a machine and 1 person at minimum wage did it in 19 hours. If it was a rush you could have cut two or three templates and had several people doing the order ASAP! 

How does this compare to that of a Libero or Chinese machine!

It gets even more interesting when you realize that it barely takes longer if the stone count is higher! It takes the same effort literally to do this! So where as the Libero would run unattended for a longer time (if the stone count were double or triple) the same goes for the Chinese machine.

In short running a job with a Libero, even though the machine is more expensive is cheaper because no human is needed for anything and it can run 8-15 hours until more stones need to be added.

The Chinese machine costs less than the top Libero, almost half but it requires a person for every shift to be there! So you have the machine cost AND the human labor cost and its now costing you more to run every hour than a Libero for the rest of your life!

The Permaboss Motif Maker requires the cheapest of labor costs BUT it’s faster when it comes to a higher stone count. So in effect it’s the cheapest to run and the cheapest to buy and own overall.

How much can I make an hour in terms of $$$$$

For the crown job we charged $1.85 per design for a total of $2,777 and it took us 19 hours and cost minimum wage for 19 hours!

How many designs can I make in 1 hour!

In this particular case it we made around 78 designs per hour or $144 per hour!

What if I want to do more than 1 color with the Motif Maker?

You just need to repeat the process for more colors. Keep in mind that 90% of the orders are 1 color and less than two colors or two sizes then it still works out!

Below is a sample of a multicolor process. I didn’t have the pressed shirt at the time of publishing the website but at some point when the customer sends us a pic we will add it! By the way these are HUGE full front designs! The customer supplied the Swarovski ® stones and we provided the labor. For 12 designs of each, (Front and back) we charged almost $500 labor!

The Libero series of Rhinestone Robots is simply the ultimate transfer making machine but its out of the price range of the vast majority of start ups.
